Community activities in Kitojo
Kitojo Tourist Home offers unique opportunity to
its guests to experience the community through village walks. Visitors can participate in Kitojo Integrated
Development Association's (KIDA) activities involving
cultural and socio-economic aspects of the local and rural
communities:
- visit local families
- meet and talk with individuals and groups such as
women, youth and children.
- going out with the music, dance and drama group at
its community education performances and having fun with
the community members at a cultural evening at KIDA
- visit
schools, places of worship, local market places and participate in clinic work.
Kitojo Integrated Development
Association (KIDA), is a local non profit community
organization actively engaged in HIV/AIDS prevention
programmes that includes the following activities:
- voluntary counseling and blood testing (VCT)
- care and support of AIDS affected widows, orphans
and vulnerable children in school
- delivery of medical care (Antiretroviral and other
treatment) to the infected
- offering of vocational skills to school drop outs
- economic empowerment through a locally initiated
microfinance programme
- improvement of nutrition and sustainable agriculture
- transformation of community attitudes and
understanding through traditional music dance and drama
performances and improvement of water and sanitation and
general community health.
- sending HIV/AIDS orphans and vulnerable children to
school, vocational skills training of school dropout
youths improvement of nutrition and agriculture - the
micro finance scheme all goes direct to benefit the
affected community members through the organization.

Other activities
Located in the crater lakes region, Kitojo tourist home
is a strategic place from which to explore the marvelous
crater lakes and formations that resulted from volcanic
activity thousands of years ago. Crater lakes like Nyaswiga,
Nkuruba, Nyinambuga, Lyantonde can be seen, or one can visit
beautiful hills such as Kamigani, the top of the world.
Mahoma falls, one hour trip away, is something you may not
wish to miss.
Located 8kms from the Kibale National Park boundary, the
home is a suitable base from where guests can explore other
nearby national parks, including chimpanzee trekking.
Take a game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park, three
hours drive, followed up by a boat ride on the famous
Kazinga channel.
Semuliki National park is three and half hour drive where
one can see hot springs, and view the beauty of the western
rift valley escarpment among other things.
The Amabere caves is only one and half hour drive away.
We also recommend a village walk to homes in Kitojo or
experience a memorable visit to the Rwaihamba community
market, which operates every Thursday and Monday.
